Apple's New iPad Anouncement Steve Jobs Demonstrating

Apple's New iPad Announcement Steve Jobs Demonstrating

Sorry Apple and Steve ... but just looks to be an over-sized iPod Touch IMO

*** side note again ;) ... but the name iPad sounds like something that belongs in the feminine hygiene product isle at the supermarket ... not sold at the Apple Store. (Just a thought) ***

This will not replace .. a Laptop or even your iPod Touch or your iPhone.. it wont fit in your pocket. Try jogging, running, or going to the gym with it... (yeah like I do any of that hehehe ...)

with an initial Price Point of 499.00 U.S. It seems
economical enough for the average Joe to afford. But is this something every one will want??

With a 9.7 inch LED back-lit display it certainly looks great,
and at a pound and a half will be easy to carry around and use.

Apple is saying that with the A4 chip it will have up to a 10 hour battery, which will be good to media hungry folks like myself.

Built in Wireless 802.11n will take advantage of even the fastest Wi-Fi network currently available.

Will also be released with 3G for the road warrior group. That can't live with out i-net a way from the office.

Built in Bluetooth 2.1 is a must in any product that comes out from now on (at least it is to me) and the iPad has it .. this will allow for wireless head phones, keyboard, mouse, and other geek toys as they become available.

Now the bad:

From all appearances no Web Cam ... or Camera of any type..

The OS (operating system) seems to be an over grown iPhone or iPod Touch platform. No Multi-Tasking capabilities.

You will be limited to Apps from the Apps Store. (I'm sure it will be jail-broken in no time after launch)

This I am sure will be limited to apps ... word, excel, other types of document editing not built in.

I will continue with this as I get more information..

But from first blush... this will be a very popular device for the got to have it now folks ... but as for me .. it would just be another toy that I would have to lug around with me and I already have toooooo many. I will wait a year or 2 till I find one on CraigsList for 100 bucks.. or less.

This will not replace .. a Laptop or even your iPod Touch or your iPhone..

Adobe Flash Player 10.1 Public Prerelease Older NetBooks get a Boost??

Adobe has released the flash player 10.1 beta 2

For media hungry netbook users like my self I though this would be a God Send. Hulu, unfortunately is one of my relax times it is also addicting in a way. And the ability to watch in 480p is actually pretty good on my MacBook Pro .. but even more visually appealing on the BrightView screen of the DV2000. Seeing that I can catch up on all the Science Fiction episodes that I never really have time to watch during regularly scheduled time's.

With my HP mini 1154nr at hand today (BTW just got it back from HP with replacement hard drive.. and yet it has to go back .. has more damage than when it left me. Waiting on a call back from a case specialist... DAMN IT)

I was hopeful that now with Adobe's new Flash Player...
I may be able to play all of the content of Caprica or the episodes of SG1 in all of their grandeur at 480p.

Well sad to say I was wrong .. I did skim through the Beta 2 Release Notes and made sure to un-install any previous versions of Flash Player by using the "Add or Remove Programs" in the control panel.

Then and only the installed the packages from Adobe found HERE

And then immediately proceeded to Hulu and started watching Part 2 Pilot of Caprica. Unfortunately it is still skipping and jerking at 480p full screen.

Why??? well to continue on with the release notes.
"Flash Player 10.1 supports hardware decoding of H.264 video on Windows platforms when running with supported hardware."

Well this BYTES... My little netbook from HP specifically the mini 1154nr and the little ones 1151nr contain the Mobile Intel 945 Express Chip-set.

And low and behold for Flash Player 10.1 Beta 2 to give the advantage of hardware acceleration the computer needs to have a Mobile Intel 4 series Express chip-set.

Well that's a total bummer... I guess I will just have to wait till some one on CraigsList wants to give up their HP mini 311 for cheap. Some of the other chip sets that are supported are

Nvidia ION, Nvidia GeForce, and Quadro-powerd PC's
Broadcom BCM70012 found in systems with Broadcom Crystal HD Enhanced Video Accelerator. ( of which some older HP NetBook's also have )

hmmm... can you see another wright up in the future "Adding a Broadcom Crytal HD Accelerator in the mini 1000 how to"... will have to look in to the cost of that.. and how..

And a good long list of AMD/ATI video chipset's

So for now I will just have to be content with my HULU at standard resolution of 360p but its still relax time.. for sure.

Check out the Release Notes HERE

HP Pavilion DV2000 Laptop Disassembly Tear-down Part 3

This is the Third and final Part of the How To Disassemble the HP DV2000 series Notebook's / Laptop's Disassembly Tear-Down with photos.

How to take apart HP Pavilion dv2000 series notebook / laptop Part 3

Tear down Guide for the DV series laptops from HP and Compaq

This is a quick post showing a DV2000 tear-down.

Level of experience needed: Advanced (this is not to say anyone should not be able to do this it will just take more time)

By now you have removed the Keyboard, LCD panel, and the Top Chassis with the track pad.... on to removing the system board it self.

Part 1 can be found HERE

And Part 2 can be found HERE

If you are here due to no video click here for the DIY fix

Now Available a PDF Download an AD FREE and Printable 3$ dollar file of this DV2000 Tear Down guide, all for less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks ;).

Start by removing the screw in the left speaker assembly and the screw in the chassis.

Dis-connect the cable from the speaker to the system board and there is another connection right next to it for the sleep button that was hidden under the LCD panel.

****Note be very careful with all of the cables in the machine .. they will break very easily and you will be left with bits of plastic and pins ... not a happy camper IMO (been there done that)****

here is a shot from above with the speaker assembly removed you can see there are only a few more things to take care of before the system board will just pop right out.

Move down to the bottom and you will need to remove the screws for the Wi-Fi switch this also controls the Bluetooth in the system (if it has Bluetooth built in). You can leave it connected to the system-board at this time if you like I found no reason to remove it .. Unless you are actually replacing the system board it self.

Now Available a PDF Download an AD FREE and Printable 3$ dollar file of this DV2000 Tear Down guide, all for less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks ;).

Now remove the cable from the system board that goes to the IR / Headphones jacks.. I have not had to remove this board either.. But there is a screw hiding under the cable on the left side. when pulling the system board out make sure you clear this cable though ..

Next is the power cable and the data cable from the usb on the right side ... gently remove these from the system board.

Disconnect the cable from the modem board and take the tape holding it down off. You will need to clear this cable as well when you are pulling out the system board...

It's now time lift up on the system board from the right side ... make sure it clears the fan chassis.. and all of the component slots on the left side .. gently pull to the right and Viola....

You have successfully removed the system board.

To put it back .. just follow the directions in reverse order.

Good luck in all of your endeavors..

flip the laptop over and open it up .. you have already removed all of the screws that are holding the keyboard in. There are 4 plastic keepers that are still holding it in place. They are easily by-passed if you pull the keyboard from the middel top and bow it just a bit.

Fold the keyboard back on to the track pad and you will find the release for the ribbon cable .

Release it by pussing the tabs twards the LCD panel and place the keyboard off to the side in a safe place.
Also shown here is the built in Mic connector and the track pad cable.

Here is a closer shot of the Track Pad Ribbon cable ... remove it now so you don't for get later .. and accidently pull on it these are delicate and it dosen't take much to damage them.

Move up to the Quick Launch bezel..  pry up on the right side and it will come free.. Don't just try and rip it off you still have the ribbon cable and the power button cable to deal with still.

Now Available a PDF Download an AD FREE and Printable 3$ dollar file of this DV2000 Tear Down guide, all for less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks ;).

Heres a good look at the Quick Launch cable ... remove it from the system board ..

All the way to the left is the Power button connection ..

Once you have the majority of the connectos disconnected remove the LCD panel cable and the screws circled.

De-route all of the remaining cables from their keepers and pull the Wi-Fi cable up through the chassis and you are ready to move on to removeing the LCD panel.

Now Available a PDF Download an AD FREE and Printable 3$ dollar file of this DV2000 Tear Down guide, all for less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks ;).

There are 2 screws on the left side of the lcd panel..

And 2 more on the right side .. once removed make sure all of the cables are free and lift the panel off of the chassis ... set it off to the side in a safe place remember it does not take much to damage these panels.

Run your finger nail ( or a cut up credit card if you don't have strong enough nails) around the out side of the top chassis to dis-engage the plastic clips and the top chassis will come right off. place that off to the side and move on to the next step.

What is needed: Clean Space to work you should have an anti-static mat and wrist strap as well.

make sure you discharge any static build up before working on any electronic components
and if you get up to get coffee or any other reason discharge again before touching anything

****** Warning this will void the warranty of your HP Pavilion DV2000 (if you still have one) and can render your DV2000 useless if you do something wrong if you are not comfortable taking this or any electronic product apart have a qualified Service Technician do if for you I take no responsibilities if you decide to to this your self. There is always a risk of electrocution as well capacitors can retain a charge and the power supply as well as the battery should be removed when any repair is made. (have to do this warning just a CYA thing) OH BTW DON'T DO THIS (ok that should cover me)********

Tools you should have

Now Available a PDF Download an AD FREE and Printable 3$ dollar file of this DV2000 Tear Down guide, all for less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks ;).

Every thing in the top Black tool kit was not used in this tear-down but is good to have when you are working on computers.

The Screw Driver kit in red is a great cheap kit for 12$ at your local Tool King, Checker Auto Parts, or Wal-Mart.

Next is the HP Pavilion DV2000

Like I have mentioned I love these little DV2000 series laptops / notebooks I use both Mac and PC's so I am not partial to one or the other .. IMO the fit and finnish of the DV series from HP are just great.

Here you can see the screws on the bottom of the HP Pavilion DV2000 you can get to before taking out the battery, memory cover, Wi-Fi cover, or the Hard drive cover.

After taking the battery out you are presented with 5 screws the 2 smaller ones hold the Quick Launch bezel. The 3 longer screws accross the top are holding the Keyboard ...

After removing all of the covers from the bottom of the DV2000 you now can see where you need to remove the hard drive ..... the screw for the DVD drive and Wi-Fi.

Here is a better shot of the hard and the screws for it ...

Now Available a PDF Download an AD FREE and Printable 3$ dollar file of this DV2000 Tear Down guide, all for less than a cup of coffee at Starbucks ;).

Lift up on the tab for the hard drive and it will just pull right out.

Once you have the hard drive removed you will see 3 smaller screws that will need to be removed.

***** "The Best things in life are Free" (quote from somewhere idk)..... but if this site has helped you in any way ....

DONATE!!!!

or buy a guide...
*****

Here is the screw that will release the DVD drive.  once its out just pull on the drive and it will release.

Once you have the DVD drive out you will find 2 more small screws that are holding this side of the case to the top chassis.

Next is the Wi-Fi .. to be honest it is best to just remove it now .. you will have to pull the cables through the board later to remove the LCD panel and the top chassis.

DV9000 Disassembly Tear-down Part 4

This is the Forth and final Part of How To Disassemble the HP DV9000 series Notebook's / Laptop's Disassembly Tear-Down with photos.

Part 1 can be found here ....

and Part 2 can be found here

and Part 3 can be found here...

How to take apart HP Pavillion dv9000

Tear down Guide for the DV series laptops from HP and Compaq

This is a quick post showing a DV9000 tear-down.

Level of experience needed: Advanced (this is not to say anyone should not be able to do this it will just take more time)

Time for Tear-Down: 30 min. (including taking pictures) this thing is a monster with the 17" screen.

By now you have removed all of the bottom screws the keyaboard, Quick Launch bezel, LCD panel, and the top assembly with the touch pad.

On to the exciting stuff....

now you have a good look at whats ahead.  all of the connections, screws, and cables that need to be removed / derouted have been circled.  It looks to be a daunting task, but if you have made it this far ... you are doing well and this should be an easy venture for you.  Note the bluetooth cable needs to be disonnected at this time there is not an individual step for this....

first thinsg first .. there are 4 screws in the pcmcia express card slot that need to be removed..  then the card cage and board will just slide out of the connector.  There is no need to entirely remove it from the chassis .. but if you want to just disconnect the cable.  I don't usualy take this out because sometimes I forget to put it back in and have to tear it all apart again to put it back.

next up is the extention board for the CD/DVD-RW board .. only one screw holding this .. Slide it out and off to the side.. you may have to twist a little there is a standoff in the way.

Remove the screws for the speaker assembly and remove it .. if you did not disconect the cable to the powerbutton board do it now.

remove this screw holding the fan assembly to the bottom chassis.

There is one more screw holding the fan assembly to the bottom case.

Gently remove the ribbon cable going to the WI-FI switch ... this controls WI-FI and bluetooth (if you have it) there is no need to remove this board .. the systemboard will clear it.

De-route the power cables from their keepers.

Lift up on the right side of the systemboard.. you can see where the power cables are connected .. don't try to remove them now just be careful handeling the board with them attached .. its easier to remove them later.

the cable for the head phone jacks / IR reciver is still attached .. disconnect it now

carefully pull the board to the right freeing it from the chassis on the left side you may have to pry a little and twist for it to come loose make sure you lift from the right side and clear the fan assembly... just keep in mind the power cables ... flip the board over and you can see the screws for the heat sink.  basicaly you are done ...

Here is my map of all the screws that were removed... makes things just a little bit easier to put back togather.

Congradulations.. to put it back togather just follow this post in reverse order and you should be back to normal.
